11 February. The Central Navigation School [C.N.S.] move to a new, larger, home with hard runways and better facilities, R.A.F. Shawbury. To make room for the C.N.S. Wellingtons the current unit are renamed No.11 Pilots Advanced Flying Unit [(P.)A.F.U.] and moved to R.A.F. Calverley near Nantwich. Cranage, with it large, and now empty, hangars becomes the home of the Repair and Inspection Squadron of Servicing Wing looking after and servicing the Oxfords of No.11 (P.)A.F.U. at Calverley.
April. The 14th Liaison Squadron, of the 9th United States Army Air Force [U.S.A.A.F.], arrive at Cranage with their Sentinel L-5 aircraft. Another aircraft stored at Cranage is a Stinson L-9, personal aircraft of General Patton who was based up the road at Peover Hall while he prepared for Operation Overlord and the Normandy landings.
