Information on Rosemary Peters (married name Brekke), came in from her daughter Sue Brekke-Benson.

 

Born in Birkenhead Miss Peters took her main training at Compton Bassett moving onto Chicksands and a brief time at Cheadle before arriving at Cranage on 24 January 1944.

Looking through reference material -

R.A.F. Compton Bassett was a major Radio and Radar Training School.

R.A.F. Chicksands operated as a SIGINT collection site throughout WWII, intercepting German traffic and passing the resulting material to the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park.

Cheadle was a ‘Y’ station, linked again to Bletchley Park. Operating from Woodhead Hall, Staffordshire, Cheadle’s role was the monitoring of enemy Air Force signals.

With all this in mind, Miss Peters role at Cranage is a little uncertain and both her daughter Sue and myself would be very interested in finding out exactly what it was she did during her time there.

Miss Peters married an American Serviceman and became Mrs Rosemary Brekke.
