Flight Engineer course
Taken from a letter to Hugh Budgen.
I notice your note on page 58 of the R.A.F.A. Air Mail and write to tell you that I was stationed at Cranage for 7 weeks from July 19th, 1944 on a training course of 6 weeks plus 1 extra week because of illness.
The course was for aspiring Flight Engineers and led subsequently to St. Athan for a further course. Unfortunately the R.A.F. decided to discontinue Flight Engineer training and so I stopped the training and had to re-muster. I chose Code and Cypher work and was shipped to India and the New Dehli Signals Centre for 20 months before repatriating.
I enjoyed my time at Cranage and wonder why you are interested in that particular Station.
Hope to hear from you.
Yours sincerely,
Roger Bowers
